Appellate Work

In each appellate case, we seek to identify the case’s key issues, understanding thoroughly the applicable law, and develop the best strategy for the case and the client. We take pride in our written and oral argument skills. And we give honest advice about the pros and cons of seeking a writ or appeal in a each case.

We look forward to discussing how we might best assist you (and/or your trial counsel) at the appellate level.

Appellate Experience:

Before entering private practice, John clerked with the Hon. Marilyn Castle (15th Louisiana JDC) and then for two years with Chief Justice Catherine Kimball of the Louisiana Supreme Court. (He also spent a semester serving as a student clerk for a now-retired federal, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals judge.)

At the Louisiana Supreme Court, John advised the justices on whether to grant or deny numerous writ applications and he assisted the Chief in writing several majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions. That experience provided valuable insight into the decision making of appellate courts in the State of Louisiana.

In private practice, John has been successful with writs to Louisiana and federal courts on several business, employment, arbitration, and construction law issues. Likewise, he has presented and defended appeals successfully at both intermediate appellate courts and the Louisiana Supreme Court.
